The Ministry of Forests is responsible for the stewardship of provincial Crown land and ensures the sustainable management of forest, wildlife, water and other land-based resources. The Ministry works with Indigenous and rural communities to strengthen and diversify their economies. The Office of the Chief Forester provides provincial leadership for forest stewardship through the continuous improvement of policies, legislation and practices for forest inventory, timber supply planning, allowable annual cut determination, silviculture, forest health, land-based research, climate change, forest bioeconomy and forest genetic resource management to achieve sustainable management of BC’s forests and maintain a balance between a healthy environment and economic sustainability.

The UBC BioProducts Institute (BPI) is an innovative ecosystem of high-impact fundamental and applied researchers working on solutions to today’s climate and environmental challenges. The Institute brings together inter- and multi-disciplinary researchers comprised of scientists, engineers, and market and policy experts to unlock the full potential of materials, chemicals and fuels produced in nature. Based on the guiding principles of circularity, sustainability and renewability, BPI seeks to reduce society’s footprint and tackle rampant environmental challenges such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions and plastic waste.
